Modify data in SQL Server with access mdb

hello

I'm trying to use access to modify data in SQL Server 2000 tables. Everything is ok on most tables, but only one made me troubles. This one when I'm doing something on it is saying that an other user modify this record and I cannot save this information.

This table has 40 rows and 3 primary key.

I'm the only one to work on this database.

thank you for responseDoes your table have any bit data types which allow null values? Access can't deal with null value data bit columns and if you modify a row with a null value it gives you an error saying it has already been modified by another user.

hope this helps

mixed mode does not work

I have recently set the security mode to Mixed mode for SQL2005 running on
Win XP Pro SP-2. I want to be able to access the database from other
machines using the sa password. This I can do but I am no longer able to
use the WinNT authen. for local access. What gives?
ThanksLarry - I have only seen this when the user's windows password has
expiredbut they are still logged on in windows and try to access sql
server - any chance this is the case?
Cheers,
Paul Ibison SQL Server MVP, www.replicationanswers.com .|||I don't think that is it. But you may be on the right track. I often use a
cached profile, I.e. I am not connected to my domain but still use a Domain
login. If that is the case, SQL server would not be able to validate my
authentication while I am not connected to the server. Of course, I can
test this when I am in the office or possible while I have a VPN open to the
Domain server.
Thanks,

Missing VarBinary(MAX) filestream storage attribute

Hi
I found the filestream attribute in Beta 1 new features list, but
cannot find any reference to it in the CTP documentation. It allows
direct access to word documents stored in a VarBinary(MAX) column. By
direct access I mean a file path\name to the file as stored in the
database using SQL Server FileStream Agent, also this removes the 2GB
restriction on file size.
Thanks in Advance
vihsFilestream was cut from the SQL Server 2005 shortly after Beta 1.

Missing table

I have a SQL 7.0 server holding our Agency's most critical
database. At my deskstop, I link to this database in
Access via ODBC drivers. I am linked to a specific table
which has disappeared from the server. It does not appear
in Enterprise Manager. I can find no "hidden" attributes
to reverse...the table is simply gone. However, I can use
the Query Analyser to get a count of records in this table
and it returns the correct number of records. Furthermore,
all data prior to 5/18/04 has also disappeared. Can anyone
help me find this table AND more importantly, help me
discover why the data disappeared. No, I have no backups
going back that far..... Thanks in advance.I am guessing that the table is "owned" by some other user.
Using Query Analyzer
Connnect to the server
switch to the appropriate database
SELECT TABLE_SCHEMA, TABLE_TYPE, TABLE_NAME FROM =INFORMATION_SCHEMA.tables
SELECT crdate, name FROM sysobjects WHERE TYPE =3D 'u' ORDER BY crdate =DESC, name
Regarding the dissapearing data, I am guessing that someone who thought =they knew what they were doing (on or around 5/18/2004) created a new =table (with a different owner) and dropped the old table. That is =speculation, but based on the information that you have provided it =sounds logical. The other possibility is that someone deleted the data =within the table and changed the owner.
Whatever the case may be, you have some investigation to do!

The first piece of sql displays the table owner, type (table or view), =and the name of the table.

Missing SQL Server 2000 Performance Counters

I installed SQL Server 2000 w/SP4 on a x64 Windows 2003 OS. I found that I
did not have access to the SQL performance counters and it is the same on
other servers with the same combination. Has anyone run into this issue?
What's the solution to it? thanks.Hi Jason,
Thank you for your post.
I understand that you can not view the Performance Counters of SQL Server
on a 64bit OS. If I misunderstood your concern, please feel free to let me
know.
A 64-bit perfmon client app can view OS counters plus counters for any
application that has installed a 64-bit perfmon DLL (a 64-bit app can't
load a 32-bit DLL). This means that a 64-bit perfmon client app can see a
local 64-bit SQL instance's counters, but not counters for a local 32-bit
instance running in WOW64.
A possible workaround to this problem could be:
Please run "mmc /32 perfmon.msc" from Start-Run. Please let me know whether
you can see the perfmon counters for 32-bit sql server or not.
Sincerely,
Wei Lu

We are having the same problem, and the posted work around does work:

...But, that prevents us from being able to see the counters from our
own computers which makes troubleshooting emergencies much quicker than
having to log in to the server itself to perform this.
Does anyone know any way of being able to see these counters from a
remote computer?
Thanks.

hi christina,
First off this is a SQL Server newsgroup. So try putting your question in some of the oracle
newgroup/forum. However, with some oracle knowledge i've here are little annotations on my
part.
As far as i know ansi sql syntaxes are only available in oracle from oracle9i so if you are
using oralce8i this is not supported.
Also, enclosing identifiers in square brackets is syntactically correct in SQL Server and not
in Oracle. See following corrected query(should work in oracle9i).
SELECT MC_POSUM.POSUMOI
FROM
--one bracket missing below
(((((((MC_POSUM INNER JOIN MC_POLINE ON MC_POSUM.POSUMOI = MC_POLINE.PO_OI) INNER JOIN

MC_PODEL
Also once where clause is over it is syntactically incorrect to use FROM clause again.

Missing Records in Linked Table

I'm running Access 2000 with a SQL 7 back end, using ODBC linked tables in
an MDB file. The db is used by about 30 users on a LAN, and an additional 10
or so on a WAN.
Recently, one of the WAN users complained of intermittently not being able
to find certain customers in the customers table (contains around 40,000
records). There are specific "problem records" of customers that can't be
found, and they all start with the letter "F" (the table has a numeric
customer ID as its primary key).
For these three or four customers that have been identified so far as
problem records, the customer exists in the customer list (a drop-down based
on a front-end table), but, when trying to go to the record, are told that
the record's not found.
Similarly, when the user searches for one of these problem records using the
custom search function, which searches the linked tables, the search
function says the record cannot be found.
Note that this is an intermittent problem with this single WAN user, and no
other users (on WAN or LAN are having this problem).
Any ideas about what might be causing it, or what can be done to this single
user's machine to alleviate the problem?
Thanks!
NeilAre they accessing the table directly or through a View that might be
limiting records?

Check thw WAN connection and the service packs (OS, Office, MDAC/Jet) of
the client.

The fact that these records all have names starting with "F" leads me to
wonder if it's a paging issue, even though the PK is the customer ID, not
name, though there is an index on last name.

Missing ODBC drivers - please help!!

Hi all

For some reason, my Excel / Access drivers have disappeared from the list of available data sources when running the Import wizard or when trying to create a dts package. They are installed on the machine as I can see them through the ODBC Administrator. I have googled extensively, found some posts relating to TimeSlips (not relevant as not installed), re-installing MDAC.

Having done all the relevant stuff (updating to latest MDAC), still not coming up. Installed SQL 2005 Management Studio thinking that may help. Still nothing. Can someone please give me some advice, APART FROM RE-INSTALLING OS.

How does Import wizard pickup the available drivers, any registry settings...? Currently running XP SP2 with all the latest updates.

Need to get data uploaded to customer site from Excel spreadsheet. So any help / advice would be greatly appreciated!

TIA

Hi Satya

In the hope of NOT making things worse, I don't want to install third party stuff just yet. I will give it a go if no other advice is submitted. Thanks

Regan

|||Are there any recent chanages such as rollout of hotfix or service pack on this installation, as you say previously it used to be there.|||

It was definitely working on the 13Nov. That was the last time I did an import into a sql db.

Automatic updates has been running and yes there have been a few. Tried a system restore, but for some reason the wizard only goes back to the 20th. Not sure why THAT is.

Anyway, did a restore to the 20th and the problem ist still there. My question is HOW does the import wizard enumerate the list for the data source drop down box. I am leading towards the following strategy:

1. A XP repair attempt which I am assuming will restore everything to installation default, but still keep my program files ...I hope!?

2. If no luck there then a complete re-install. This is an absolute last resort as it will involve installing and setting up my development environment, all vpn access connections and everything else and will be a complete pain not to mention the 1 to 2 days downtime (which I REALLY can't afford).

Maybe using the data direct driver is still an option. but that still doesn't fix my machine.

So ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

|||Appreciate your feedback in this case to understand the problem and workaround .

I believe it looks like some sort of MDAC tools mismatch causing this issue and relevant ODBC drivers .DLL might be missing, may try with DataDirect and they can be trusted as no issues it works me always.

I suggest you may try opening a case with MS PSS if this is causing a major downgrade to your production system, if not live with third party tool until you can get another machine to fix the problem.

Sorry, nothing much help but few options you might try out.

Good luck.|||

Did you ever get this fixed? I have a staff member that has the same problem and is running XP SP2 with no ODBC Drivers at all.

Missing Format() - Function

Hi folks,
i have to translate SQL-Statements from Access 2000 to SQL
Server 2000. There was a lot of Access-Functions used
(mid, str, iif ...) and i convert them to SQL-Server
Syntax, but i dont found a way to simulate the results of
the Format-Function with was used for numeric data
as "##0.##" or "##0 %" and so on ...
What is the best way to substitute the FORMAT() function
at SQL Server?
Thanks for any help.

Hi Niels,
The best way is to return unformatted data to the client and let the
client handle the formatting. Formatting is not a task that the server
is ideally suited for.
If you must do it at the server, then start by looking into functions
such as CONVERT, CAST and STR. If they don't do what you need, then post
some examples of unformatted data and how you want it to look, so that I
(and others) can look into it and try to come up with something.

Well i have to format the results, because the code of the
given application was lost and i translate the sql-
statements coming from a textfile.

I use them for formating datetime values. It works well
but at numeric data the results a not good. therefore i
start to write a serverside function. I will post the code
if it was ready.

Hi Niels,
I might have misunderstood you. I thought you wanted to find a way to
control the format used for outputting numeric values from SQL Server,
but now I'm starting to think that you need to do the reverse: read in a
file with formatted results and make sure that they are converted to the
correct numeric values by SQL Server.
But maybe I am still misunderstanding you?

Yes, you can do that. Or you can post some examples of typical data in
input / output pairs, to help me understand what exactly you need to get
done. I can only try to help if I know what you're trying to achieve,
and frankly, I don't know right now. Since I don't know what Access'
FORMAT() function does, you'll need to teach me (by example) - then I
can try to find a way to mimic this in SQL Server.

Missing DLL for Crystl32.ocx 6.1

Hi,

I'm using MS Access 2000 and VB in conjuction with crystal ActiveX control
Crystl32.ocx (v. 6.1) to preview and print from SQL 2000 database. All this worked fine under Windows 2000 OS. However, when I try to do the same under Windows XP OS I'm getting the error "Can not find Database DLL".

I tried re-registering the Crystl32.ocx control, which was not a problem, however, this did not correct the preview and print problem. The following are the DLLs that I copied from the Windows 2000 pc to Windows XP;

CRPE32.dll - Interface to the Crystal Report engine
CRPAIG32.dll - Crystal Reports text object suport
IMPLODE.dll - compression library

The remaining DLLs that I know of are;

MFC42.dll - MS Foundation Class libraries
MSVCIRT.dll - runtime lib
MSVCP60.dll - runtime lib
OLEPRO32.dll - OLE Property Support DLL

Thank you for your help,

Danielhi
i don't know is this going to help, but i had kind of same problem when started to use XP instead of 2K:
i was getting a message: "missing crystl32.ocx" all the time...tried to register it, but it didn't work..
what i had to do was to install an older version of crystal reports, 8.0 or 8.5, because i was told that newer versions do not support ocx controls...|||This is a really crappy message that Crystal are too lazy to fix by putting proper granular error-handler is their code.
It could be caused by a number of problems, including a missing DLL. It could be caused by having a subreport, and failing to programmatically send the logon information to the subreport by iterating through the collection of subreports and setting the logon infop for each one.
This occurs on some ODBC connections, but not on others depending on how the OS implements its security.
On our connection to an AS400, for example, we don't get this error because the connection is configurable and you can (in essence) set it to store its logon info for that session.
If you have subreports, try sending logoninfo to each one.
