We have an old server 6.5
Try to login to sql 6.5 Enterprise manager
and try to connect get the following Error: SQL Server Error
[DB Libraray] Unable to connect: SQL server is unavailable or does not exist;
Severity level 9 MsgNo 10004 OS Error 53
ConnectionOpen(CreateFile())
The Users are able to use the Db thru the VB application...
How do I resolve this. How do I get to Open Enterprise manager and manage my
tasks and backups

Are you trying to do this from the Server? If not, try it from there.
Check how the VB application is connecting. Is it using the name or an IP.
Try "TELNET servername 1433)" and see if it gives you a blank screen without
timing out.

It did give a balnk screen no time out. I tried the Enterprise manager from
both the server and my machine, I could not connect.
I need to finish my tasks and projects.

Mobile 5.0 app can not connect to SQL 2005 Express

I'm using VS2005 pro to develop one windows form and one Mobile5.0 app ,
they are simple apps and just connect to SQL server to get data. The SQL
servers include Win2K + SQL2K, Win2K3 + SQL2K5 std and Win2K3 + SQL2K5
Express.
All works fine until one day I updated Win2K3 patches to the sql server via
windows update.
The mobile 5.0 app can not connect the SQL 2005 express any more, it will
get error message:
"Can not find specific sql server SERVERNAME\SQLEXPRESS", I didn't change
any codes
or settings. But it still can connect to SQL2000 or SQL 2005 std.
The Windows app is able to connect to SQL2000/SQL2005 std/SQL 2005 express
without
any problem.

The problem here is it works for SQL 2005 Express in the begining.
But it's failed after applying windows 2003 patches.

Missing ODBC Drivers

I'm trying to connect a NT 4.0 Workstation to a ODBC database (SQL 2000). Wh
en I use the the ODBC Data Administrator on the WS to create a new DSN there
are no ODBC drivers available. How to install the missing driver?

DirkYou can download MDAC from the support.microsoft.com and install it. Pick a
version 2.6 or greater. By default, a SQL SErver ODBC driver is not
istalled on Windows NT 4.0. If an application has not been installed to
install the driver it probably will not be on the system. Installing MDAC
will install the ODBC driver.
